From Mangystau to Petropavlovsk: A Journey to Knowledge and a New Life

Representatives of the Centre for Labour Mobility and Career of Mangystau Region met with students of Kozybayev University. They conducted outreach and awareness-raising activities on the voluntary resettlement programme as well as the employment of young professionals. The delegation arrived on a working visit to the North Kazakhstan region to learn about the living conditions and everyday life of citizens who had relocated from Mangystau, and to study the labour market in the northern region. Our university has been welcoming students from Mangystau Region under this initiative for three consecutive years. During the meeting, the university’s administration presented information about its educational programmes, as well as the student life and studies of those coming from Mangystau. “Currently, around 50 students from the western part of the country are studying at our university. Quota-based grants have been allocated for Mangystau Region for specific educational programmes. Twice a year our university conducts career guidance work in schools and educational institutions of this region,” shared Aigul Nurpeissova, Member of the Board for Academic Affairs. According to Ulbazar Orynbayeva, Director of the Centre for Labour Mobility of Mangystau Region, the migration policy being implemented is very important. One of the conditions for supporting citizens who wish to engage in agriculture and livestock breeding is the creation of favourable conditions for them in the northern region to increase livestock numbers: “The nature of the North is favourable. Therefore, students have the opportunity to stay in this region, work successfully, and manage their own farms. The conditions that Kozybayev University provides for students are very good. The opportunity to obtain two diplomas is not available at all universities. In our western region, there are districts with high population density, such as Munaily and Beineu. We will now conduct career guidance work in these districts to attract applicants. At today’s meeting we also listened to the students’ suggestions.” While at the university, the guests visited the educational and laboratory building, scientific laboratories, and the new 1,200-bed dormitory, and familiarised themselves with the students’ living conditions.
