Literary Evening and Competition “Shakespeare Readings – 2026”
On April 17, 2026, the Department of Foreign Languages held a literary evening and a recitation contest titled “Shakespeare Readings – 2026.” The event brought together first- and second-year students of non-language majors from the Institute of Language and Literature, the Faculty of Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Engineering, the Faculty of Economics and Law, and the Faculty of Information and Communication Technologies of M. Kozybayev North Kazakhstan University, as well as students from Omsk State Pedagogical University (Omsk, Russian Federation).
During the competition, participants presented sonnets by William Shakespeare in English; in addition, original translations of the sonnets into Kazakh were performed. Musical pieces based on the works of the great playwright were also presented.
The contestants were evaluated according to the following criteria:
- Stage presence (appearance, ability to introduce oneself in English);
- Knowledge of the text (quality of performance, correct pronunciation of English words);
- Artistic reading (intonation, expressiveness in reciting the sonnet);
- Artistry.
According to the jury of M. Kozybayev North Kazakhstan University, represented by senior lecturer D.S. Syrymbetova and teaching assistants I.B. Teboev and M.B. Teboev, the winners were determined as follows:
1st place – Kristina Yalymova, M(o)-25
2nd place – Amina Baramova, M(o)-25
3rd place – Aina Kenes, Kyal-25-1
The jury of Omsk State Pedagogical University, represented by senior lecturer Ekaterina Vladimirovna Panasenko, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences and Associate Professor Sergey Vladimirovich Nazarov, and Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences and Associate Professor Sergey Vladimirovich Nekrasov, also selected their own winners.
While the jury was making its decision, a quiz on the works of William Shakespeare was held for the audience.
The teaching staff of Omsk State Pedagogical University, represented by the Head of the Department of Foreign Languages N.A. Nazarova, highly appreciated the organization of the event and expressed a shared opinion on the importance of holding such cultural activities among students.
