Project Duration: 2022–2024.

Objective: To highlight the activities of the Alash movement and the Alash-Orda government, as well as the Kazakh intelligentsia in the northern regions of Kazakhstan, from a historical research perspective based on newly available documentary materials.

Project Description:

1. The northern region of Kazakhstan is a strategically significant area for our country. At every stage of our history, territorial issues concerning this region have remained relevant. Unfortunately, the history of this region during the medieval, colonial, and Soviet periods has not been fully studied. Despite the fact that, after the country gained independence, the issue of Alash has been widely explored in domestic historiography, the Alash movement in the northern region and the struggle of Alash figures for freedom remain crucial topics that have yet to be thoroughly examined.

2. Currently, more than 40 members of the Alash Lions, who were either born or served in this region, are known. We consider it our duty to conduct a scholarly study of their lives and activities, to preserve and promote their valuable heritage, and to educate the younger generation.
